Arriving day – Bilbao

We’ll meet at the lobby of our hotel in Bilbao at 6 pm to have our Camino presentation and our first dinner together.

It’s the perfect moment to start sharing and tasting the unique local gastronomy and exquisite wines.

DAY 1 – Bilbao – Pamplona
We begin our day in the magnificient Bilbao, meeting in the lobby of our hotel at 8:30 am, ready to hop up into our private van towards the amazing city of Palmplona. After a very interesting walking guided visit where we’ll learn about the difference between the Pinchos and Tapas and we’ll taste some of the excellent gastronomy and wines of the Navarra Region.

DAY 2 – Cizur Mayor – Uterga – 12 kms or 7,5 mi 
Our experience tells us that to start well, we must begin slowly and gradually. One of the most beautiful stages of the Camino is ahead of us. Surrounded by grain fields and poplar groves we’ll reach the Alto do Perdão, (High of Forgivness), where the Way of the Stars and the Way of the Wind meet… We’ll be awarded with one of the most overwhelming views of the French Camino, before heading on to Uterga, a beautiful medieval village loaded with symbolism of the Camino.

DAY 3 – Nájera to Sto Domingo de la Calzada – 21 kms or 13 mi
A mytical stage at the Rioja wine Region, that sets the example for the entering on the deep Meseta. Grain fields, a golf course, a lot of vineyards and very soft hills will lead us to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, place filled with legends and named by one of the biggest defensors of the Camino in the 11th century.

DAY 4 Castrojeriz – Fromista – 25 kms or 13 mi
Our day offers breathtaking and unforgettable scenery… Castrojeriz is a village very much alive with Camino spirit, and it’s through it magnificent streets that we’ll start our day, rising to the Alto de Mostelares to another amazing view of the Meseta. You will feel as if you were standing inside an old master’s painting. In Fromista, the “goodness of the palentine romanic churches” stands out…

DAY 5 Puente de Órbigo – Astorga – 16 km or 10 mi 
Puente de Órbigo is a gorgeous 14th-century Gothic bridge, known as El Passo Honroso (The Honorable Pass). In 1434, a noble Leonese knight, Don Suero de Quiñones, to regain his honor, defended the bridge against knights from all over Europe in a jousting tournament, allowing only documented Pilgrims to pass. Astorga, home of the unique Gaudi’s Episcopal Palace and a great 18th-century Gothic cathedral was called Asturica Augusta by the Romans, it’s a confluence of trade routes, such as the Via de la Plata. It’s known for the chocolate, too…

DAY 6 Rabanal – Iron Cross – El Acebo –  17 km or 11 mi
From Rabanal del Camino, we will continue our march to the humble Iron Cross, the highest point on the French Way. Pilgrims have left a stone at the foot of the cross since the 12th century along with their prayers, petitions, and wishes. Your stone may join those that have accumulated from all the pilgrims who have come before you. Our day won’t end before passing in the refuge of Thomas, the last Templar on the Camino…

DAY 7 Sarria – Portomarin- 22 kms or 14 mi
Sarria is a small urban center on the Camino Frances and is the starting place of the largest number of pilgrims beginning their Camino. The Convent of the Magdalena is the door into enchanting forests of chestnut and oaks, areas of cultivation and prairies where we will see sheep and cows grazing peacefully. We cross a multitude of villages, proud of their churches, cruceros and hórreos and the mythical 100 km stone marker.

DAY 8 Portomarin – Palas de Rei – 25 km or 15.6 mi
Fortunately, a grove of oak and chestnut trees, eucalyptus, and golden grain fields urge us up the hill of San Roque. Magnificent Hórreos and precious Cruceros, enormous Centuries-old oaks, ruins of a pre-Roman ancient fortress, the Castro, unique Churches and the magnificent 12th century post-romanesque Monastery will mark our day. Legends of noble Knights of the Order of Santiago burried here, will be shared…

Accommodations in Palas de Rei

DAY 9 – Palas de Rei – Ribadiso de Baixo – 26 km or  16 mi
Today’s path takes us near of Pico Sacro, where legends states it is populated by dragons, fighting bulls, and converted Queens. Our path continues across the ancient granite bridge of Pontecampaña and to Casanova amidst a fabulous and mystical forest. Walking over Roman road and the elegant Medieval Bridge of Disicabo, we’ll reach Melide, famous for its juicy octopus but we’ll end our day in one of the bucolic places of the Camino…!

DAY 10 Ribadiso de Baixo – Pedrouzo – 22 km or 13.75 mi
From Ribadiso, we’ll cross small and quiet villages where haystacks, bread ovens, medieval bucolic bridges, huts, and carts pulled by oxen, transport us to the ancestral Galician rural landscape. Next, we enjoy a relaxing ride on dirt roads, through groves and forests where scents and sounds of nature prevail and colorful flowers and songbirds reign.

DAY 11 Pedrouzo – Santiago – 20 km or 12.5 mi
We will start our day passing the largest eucalyptus on the Camino, flooding us with its freshness before arriving in Lavacolla, the ceremonial site of ancient rituals for pilgrims. After a quick stop at the Mount of Joy, we head to Santiago and leaving the words for later…

DAY 12 – Santiago de Compostela

In the morning, led by a local historian, we’ll have a guided visit around Santiago where we’ll learn about the history and legends of this historical city. You’ll have a free afternoon to stroll around the beautiful Santiago, to do some shopping and, we’ll meet againg in our hotel to enjoy our Celebration dinner!

When leaving Santiago behind, we’ll feel renewed and more prepared for the beginning of the new journey ahead, and, the words of the Portuguese Nobel Prize Saramago will make more sense than ever: “The end of a journey is simply the start of another. You have to go back to the footsteps already taken, to go over them again or add fresh ones, alongside them. You have to start the journey anew. Always.”
